Samosa chaat

  Samosa chaat

is a delicious and popular Indian street food that combines crispy samosas with tangy chutneys, yogurt, and various toppings. Here's a simple recipe to make samosa chaat:

Ingredients:

  • For Samosas:
  • - 6-8 samosas (You can either make them at home or buy ready-made samosas)
  • - Oil for frying (if you are making the samosas at home)

For Chaat Assembly:

  • - 1 cup boiled and cooked chickpeas
  • - 1 cup finely chopped onions
  • - 1 cup finely chopped tomatoes
  • - 1/2 cup plain yogurt (curd), beaten until smooth
  • - Green chutney (coriander and mint chutney)
  • - Sweet tamarind chutney
  • - Chaat masala
  • - Roasted cumin powder
  • - Red chili powder (optional, for extra heat)
  • - Fresh coriander leaves, chopped
  • - Sev (crispy fried chickpea noodles)

Instructions:

If you're making samosas from scratch:

1. Prepare the samosa dough by mixing 1 cup all-purpose flour, 1 tablespoon vegetable oil, a pinch of salt, and water as needed. Knead the dough until smooth and firm. Cover with a damp cloth and let it rest for 20-30 minutes.

2. In the meantime, prepare the samosa filling by sautéing 1 cup of boiled and mashed potatoes, 1/2 cup boiled peas, and some spices like cumin seeds, coriander powder, garam masala, red chili powder, and salt in a pan with a little oil. Let the filling cool.

3. Roll out the dough into small circles and cut each circle in half. Fold each half into a cone shape and fill it with the potato mixture. Seal the edges using a little water.

4. Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat. Fry the samosas until they turn golden brown and crispy. Drain excess oil on paper towels.

To assemble the Samosa Chaat:

1. Take a plate or a shallow bowl and place 2-3 samosas on it.

2. Flatten the samosas slightly with your hands to create space for toppings.

3. Pour 1-2 tablespoons of beaten yogurt over the samosas.

4. Add 2-3 tablespoons of boiled chickpeas on top.

5. Drizzle green chutney and sweet tamarind chutney over the chickpeas and samosas.

6. Sprinkle finely chopped onions and tomatoes on the chaat.

7. Generously sprinkle chaat masala, roasted cumin powder, and red chili powder (if using) over the chaat.

8. Garnish with chopped fresh coriander leaves and sev.

Your delicious Samosa Chaat is ready to be enjoyed! Serve immediately and savor the wonderful combination of flavors and textures. Feel free to adjust the quantity of chutneys and spices according to your taste preferences. Enjoy!
